A new year is upon us! and it is time for a new year’s resolution, and one of them is to get our finances straight, and I am going to give you the top 5 reasons why I feel that you should start a t-shirt business in 2020.
Top 5 Reasons To Start A T-Shirt Business In 2020
1.) It’s very easy to start.Â
These t-shirt businesses are easy to start. For all its purposes, you need to have some t-shirts and designs.
You get your designs on a t-shirt and get yourself a website like a Shopify store, or you can take it to the street. It is all is very simple and easy to start.
T-shirt business is not like starting an app, and it is not like getting into telecommunication or getting into real estate. You don’t need to get any crazy licenses to sell t-shirts online.
All you need is the desire to sell t-shirts. Therefore, getting into the t-shirt business, in the beginning, is very easy.
Please note: You may require licenses to sell t-shirts on the streets. Check your local laws for this. Also, “easy to start” does not mean “easy to sell”.
2.) Low start-up cost
The second reason is that t-shirt businesses have a low start-up cost.
Of course, you can make things complicated and get a big warehouse, a fancy office on 5th Avenue, or you can simply manufacture your blanks, and have your own screen-printing facility.
You can do all these things, but for the most part, you can go to a place like Merch by Amazon and RedBubble — where you can design and make your t-shirts using your phone — in minutes.
It is easy; the bar of entry is very low, and in cases like RedBubble and Merch by Amazon, it doesn’t cost anything.
I mean, it is low-cost, but even if you are doing it yourself with something like custom heat transfers or a vinyl cutter, where you can get a vinyl cutter for $150.
You can get a heat transfer for little presses, and you can get a heat press for a couple hundred dollars. It’s not the best heat-press, but this can certainly put heat transfers on t-shirts.
So, this is all about low start-up costs.
3.) You don’t have to be a designer.Â
You don’t have to design anything these days. I know that some people think that they may not artistic enough. However, that’s not the case anymore.
Today, you can go to places like Fiverr, Design Crowd, 99designs and get fantastic t-shirt designs at really affordable prices.
So, the whole having artistic talent is not necessary. All you need to have are some great ideas and a burning desire to succeed.
Therefore, you don’t have to be a designer to start a t-shirt business.
4.) You can’t rely on a job.Â
There is a statistic which shows that most people hate their jobs. The crazy part that we are living in a changing world. And, all these jobs that you are doing now will eventually be done by a robot or a computer in the future.
We are on the verge of an era known as Industry 4.0.
If you don’t know about Industry 4.0., then look it up!
Also, we are on the verge of 5G, and it is going to help in developing technologies like self-driving cars, automated buses, trains, and drones that are going to deliver the mails & packages.
So, it is going to make all this technology available to everyone, and we know that they have robots that do everything, like working in warehouses, cooking food, etc.
Now, all of this innovation will soon cause people to lose their jobs. All these jobs at risk of being eliminated are blue-collar positions, but what’s even more deadly in terms of jobs is that a lot of these white-collar jobs are also going to be lost not necessarily to automation, but to artificial intelligence.
There are already things like personal assistants. So, the whole assistant and personal-secretary jobs are going to go away.
This will also do away with the jobs of CPAs, and tax practitioners. Even some parts of the law are going to be dealt with by utilizing artificial intelligence.
They already have apps and technology that can write up parking tickets for you. Also, some robots even diagnose diseases.
So, even though we put the doctors and lawyers in the top tier, it must be noted that nobody’s jobs are safe with the advancement of technology. So, give yourself a side hustle to maintain your money because your job can get toasted!
5.) It’s fun.
The reason why you should start a t-shirt business in 2020 is that it’s fun!
Think about it, you are making t-shirts guys, and you are bringing joy to people’s lives.
You are putting smiles on people’s faces and you’re helping people say who and what they are to the world, which means that if you are conservative, then you can say that, if you are liberal, you can say that, or whatever you want to be, whoever you are, you can make these statements with your t-shirt designs.
Anything that you want to do, you can do that on your t-shirt. You can help people express themselves, and you can do the designs where you can be the boss and have all the stuff done yourself.
You can be a businessperson while doing something that makes you happy.
A t-shirt business is not like doing a run-of-the-mill job which usually involves doing something tedious, stupid, or doing something that is demoralizing. Instead, you are doing something artistic, creative, and fun.
So, I can’t figure anything better than a t-shirt business as a side hustle and note that the people here in the t-shirt industry are millionaires.
So, it’s gonna be all fun, fun, and fun!
