Hi there, welcome to Tshirthelpdesk.com!
My name is Gary. I have been working as a brand graphic designer for 20 years now, and here I am to share my wealth of knowledge with you. I teach people how to design, market, and promote their T-shirt business.
Today we are going to discuss the t-shirt trends in Spring 2020, and we are focusing on color, color combinations, and the art of t-shirt designs.
Also, we are going to see some examples being used in terms of graphic design.
So, let’s get started!
There’s one color that started to bubble in 2018, exploded in 2019 and it is starting to wane a bit in 2020.
The color in mind is pink, but it is currently being replaced by the colors of the purple family, i.e. lilac & purple.
Here are some of the purple lilac t-shirts:
As you can see, the purple and lilac are not only ground colors, but they are also being used as accent colors.
Also, a lot of companies are doing a great job by using the lilac and purple combination, as shown below:
A lot of these t-shirts look good on blacks:
Another color that I am noticing these days, not just in terms of the ground color, but in terms of graphic, accent colors, colors on the actual t-shirts:
The color is mint and seafoam:
This one is an excellent color, and it is getting popular day by day. Many brands are using this color with tie-dyes, graphic design, and many other methods.
So, if you want to trend within the t-shirt Industry, then this is the color for you.
One more thing that I am noticing now is color combinations.
Color combinations
One thing that am noticing is a combination of mint, lilac, and purples.
This is a great combination of these colors that I can call as a two-in-one deal. It is being used in the artwork, background, and with all other colors such as green, black, blue, etc.
It is getting huge day by day, not only because of these colors that are trending, but they are putting them together as well.
Now, if you want to get some high-quality blanks that can incorporate all the colors, then I strongly suggest that you go to Bella+Canvas.com, and get an account.
If you don’t want to get an account, then they have a retail section where you can go and buy those blanks n retail. Also, if want you want to checkout some high quality content, then you can also visit Bella+Canvas YouTube Channel.
Let me show you the process. As you can see, I have the t-shirt customization panel on Bella+Canvas.
Here, I have selected the style 3413 UNISEX TRIBLEND S/S Tee, and there are a lot of options available, including lilac, purple, and mint:
The next color that I am going to talk about is trending, but it has a piece of somber news with it. I started when LeBron came to the Los Angeles Lakers back in 2018.
But with the unfortunate death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter (RIP Kobe and Gianna), this trend has exploded.
The color combination here is the Lakers’ color combination, which is purple and gold. It is blowing up.
Take a look:
Another thing that is happening with the blanks is tie-dye. Although, it is starting to wane a little bit in 2020, I still can see some variation, and people are starting to get a little bit artistic with the tie-dye.
I am seeing a lot of tie-dyes with two colors, and a lot of them look like inkblots.
Take a look:
Tie-dye is still trending, and I like the ones with tie-dyes. I created one for myself using the blanks from Bella+Canvas.
Now, we are going to get into the art of t-shirt designs. But, we are going to get into something that has to do with color first.
One thing that I am noticing in terms of art is that there are a lot of gradient t-shirt graphics which refer to the graphics that are transitioning from one color to another.
Let me show you here:
Now, this is what I meant by gradient design, as you see that the design starts from one color, and then transitions to another one. Here, have a look once again:
One more thing that I am noticing in terms of t-shirt designs is using simple doodle and sketch type graphics. Also, a lot of these are simple elementary style, child-like forms of artwork.
Let me show you here:
Sometimes, when we think about artwork, we think about heavy illustrations and Photoshop is involved, but these designs look like you can do this with some basic tools on a simple piece of paper.
These look cool, so let me show you again:
One more trend that I am noticing these days is that a lot of people are just making the outlines, but they are not filling in the colors.
Let me show you here:
With the outline look, we can see a lot of artwork that looks like neon. So, neon type graphics are also in trend these days:
Also, I have dedicated a complete video on how to make neon designs on my YouTube channel (T-shirt design school.)
One more thing that is trending–that I wish would go away — but, I am a reporter and, I have to talk about it — are these kingpins, and drug lord glorification t-shirts.
These can be based on a real-life kingpin, drug-lord, or a movie adaptation of the same character. These drug lord t-shirts are still here and, people are still wearing them and showing up on many e-commerce sites.
However, in my opinion, please don’t do it because I believe that you can do a lot better in terms of designs.
But, that’s just me and, you are free to place the designs in any way you want!
One thing that I reported on before that is still trending in the market is the many designs focusing on the Asian (and Japanese in particular) graphic influence that includes character and letterings.
Have a look:
Bonus tip: One trend that I can already see bubbling is the animal prints.
The animal print is starting to bubble now, but trust me that by the end of 2020 & 2021, the animal print is going explode in streetwear and urban wear.
That’s my report for the t-shirt trends report for spring 2020.
Let me know which trend that you like the most in the comments!
